EA Sports released the cover of Madden NFL 23 and for the first time in forever, it's a choice everyone agrees with. Legendary coach, figure, and namesake of the brand John who passed away in 2021 is this year's cover star.
The legendary Raiders' coach helped revolutionize the game and his .759 win record remains one of the best of all time for an NFL coach. Madden was Sean McVay before Sean McVay, a 30-something wunderkind who took the league by storm during his 10-year coaching career, who then retired due to health concerns before becoming one of the most legendary and iconic broadcasters of all time.
After John Madden died in December 2021, EA Sports said, "John Madden was synonymous with football for more than 50 years. His knowledge of the game was second only to his love for it and his appreciation for everyone that ever stepped on the gridiron. A humble champion, a willing teacher, and forever a coach."
Madden NFL 23 will remember him with three different covers, representing the legacies he left to the NFL, television, and video games. One is featuring him as a coach, one depicts him as a broadcaster, and a stylized rendering of him from a Philadelphia-based artist Chuck Styles, for the digital All Madden Edition.
EA is not only announcing John Madden as the cover star for this year's game, but the publisher has dedicated its new field at its Redwood Shores headquarters as "John Madden Field." A ceremony is being held today with EA CEO Andrew Wilson, John Madden's family members, and EA employees to commemorate the field.
EA also shared the first details on what's new in Madden NFL 23. The game will include two versions of coach Madden leading two opposing teams of "All Madden" athletes in the 1970s Oakland Coliseum. Additionally, EA put together "remastered audio clips" of Madden that act as a callback to his days as a broadcaster years ago.
Either way, you won't want to miss the show! Madden NFL 23 is expected to launch in August, before the beginning of the NFL's regular season, on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox consoles. You can follow U4gm.com for the latest news!
